Officina Del Sole
Wine & Olive Oil
Where the Sun gives life and Life takes shape.
This beautiful estate stands majestically on one of the highest hilltops, between Fermo and Montegiorgio. The 103 acres of land, drapes down the hill on both sides, North and South. The Adriatic Sea sends gentle breezes up from the East, while from the West we are blessed with extraordinary sunsets.

The southern part of the estate
Today I came to drink wine and take a leisurely walk around the estate and see how they make their award winning wine.

The map to follow
For the small sum of 10 euro, we are given a glass for wine, a map to follow, the possibility to savor three types of wine and a portion of frittura (our local dish of lightly fried zucchini, eggplant, strawberries, sliced potatoes and stuffed olives).

The first stop, the receiving area. Here I had a glass of SENSI a mix of Passerina & Sauvignon. This wine to me was smooth then came a sharp kick, I was like “Oh my”! Normally the Passerina is buttery and smooth but by adding the French/Mediterranean Sauvignon it brought out the mischievous kick that was always hiding in the Passerina but was too shy to come out.

Even my car had a great view, hahaha.

Stop #2 the Terrace

Here on the Terrace I was served FRANCO Falerio Pecorino, DOC. I asked the sommelier about the wine and all he said was “Pecorino 100%”. I looked at him with a blank look and asked him for more information, but he said it again “Pecorino 100%” So i looked on the side bar.

The side bar…. Still Pecorino 100% the information did not change much. So I decided to taste it and give it my own critique. The 100% Pecorino (unlike the cheese) was much milder than the SENSI, but had a very strong presence that was comforting. It was not sweet, fragrant, acidic, fruity or floral, it was just “Good”.

I had some frittura, yes that is a strawberry you see there.

That up there is a restaurant and hotel, I have eaten there once before and the dishes are beautiful and amazing.
Back to strolling …..

Here you see the beginning of their gardens of vegetables and herbs that they will use for the restaurant.

A magical old Olive tree

A walk up to Belvedere, where you have 360 views of Le Marche. This was stop #3.

Rows of grapes maturing on the vine

The last stop The cantina

The Cantina, let’s go inside to see how it is all done.

Here is a little office, where they have the different wines and olive oil for sale

In this winery they ferment the wine in huge steel vats that hold up to 10,000 liters of wine.

This is the labeller and also adds the wine to the bottles.

Are you wondering what is in the wooden barrels if they supposedly use steel. Well in those wooden barrels they are letting sit a very special wine that will be ready next year. Shhhhh it’s a secret. Is she waiting for me? Let me get my last glass of wine, here I come!

ROSSO FRUTTO This wine is delicious, it is infused of different types of red grapes and is fermented at a low temperature to enhance the full body flavor of the fruit.

Well I arrived home in one piece and have a new wine glass for my collection.
I am far from being a Sommelier and this actually was my first experience at a wine tasting. I quite enjoyed it and will attend more winetasting , all in the name of discovering more Magic here in Le Marche for my readers.
For more information go to their website, it is beautiful and full of information on the different services they have.
