Fonte Carrà

As I approached this agriturismo, I noticed how beautiful and well kept it was, with the clay bricks and tidiness of the place. This may not be what comes to mind, when thinking of a farm. As I parked a woman with a warm bright smile came out and greeted me, Paola. She shook my hand and took me to meet her daughter Manuela with whom was playing with her child and husband (what a lovely family, I thought). Manuela was so kind to show me around and explain the workings of their agriturismo.
The agritoursimo is broken up into three parts.

ceramic
She first showed me the living quarters for the guests. They have only 3 bedrooms at the moment, each with a own bathroom. Each of the bedrooms have either a door to the outside or views of the garden or landscape.
There is also a living room and kitchen, that the guest can share, this common area clean and comfortable, has beautiful ceramic decorations done by an artist in the area.
I found it charming how they kept the exposed bricks of the old farm wall. Outside the door of the common room there is a wood burning pizza oven that can be used by guest and during the summer they make pizza parties.

outside
Continuing we went outside and Manuela showed me the farm.
The farm is full of beautiful fruit trees in bloom, olive trees and vineyards, oh and a chicken here and there.
Fonte Carrà, make delicious products that they sell directly from their farm.
They make fresh juices and jams from their plum and pear trees, olive oil from the olives trees. They have delicious wine that they produce every year from the vineyard on the property. In the summer they plant corn fields, then use the special red corn to grind into polenta. They also sell and grow different grains (wheat, barley and buckwheat) for bread or pizza dough.
The Bees
What can I say about the busy bees, they give so much, from honey, wax, medicinal purposes and beauty products.

Bee heading to get some nectar

Yummmmmmm this smells good

Beehive
From their bees, they make many things like honey of course. Natural bee wax, candles, a lovely cream for your face and hands. They also have classes for young children and teenagers, teaching them about the wonderful life of bees.
For more information they have a wonderful website.

It is amazing how different opportunities open up in life and guess it’s important to take every one you can, whilst you can.
I’m renting in Cosenza for now and maybe until October 2018. so will have to visit as I want to explore much more of Italy.
